After being away from Buffalo for 30 years, and not seeing each other for more than two decades, three childhood friends have moved back to Buffalo and are opening a bakery in Allentown called “The Rooster & Two Chicks”. I stumbled upon co-owner Barbara Buchnowski yesterday as she was busy preparing the bakery for a grand opening that will take place this Saturday. “We are all Buffalo born and raised,” Barbara told me. “Arlene Rung and Rick Smith actually went to grammar school together at St John The Baptist in Kenmore. For High School Arlene and I went to Mt St Mary, and Rick to St Joe’s. Then for college, Rick went to Canisius, I went to Buffalo State, and Arlene went to Marist. The most ironic is thing is that we haven’t seen each other in 20+ years, and to come find out we had all relocated back here…..well it was just meant to be.”
“After 20+ years of leading our lives in different pin points on the map. New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas, NYC. As Buffalo ex-pat’s will attest, home is where the heart is.” – The Rooster & Two Chicks
“Be warned this is not the place you go for the ordinary. This is where you go for EXTRA-ordinary. Eclectic finds, friendly people, healthy treats, up-cycled heirlooms, great music, positive energy, re-purposed treasures…” – The Rooster & Two Chicks
Buffalo Rising will be paying a visit to the “bakery shop” this Saturday to test out a few of the baked goods… stay tuned.
