Time Warner Cable is looking to open a new call center along the east coast and two elected leaders are pushing for it be located at the former Sheehan Hospital complex at Michigan and Clinton streets on the near east side.
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and N.Y. State Senator Tim Kennedy are urging Time Warner Cable (TWC) to locate the facility at “Compass East,” the site of the old Sheehan Hospital. The call center could create as many as 175 new jobs, and overall would employ 250 to 300 workers, including approximately 100 jobs that Time Warner plans to move from elsewhere in the country. Schumer called Rob Marcus, COO of TWC, and Glenn Britt, CEO, to urge that they locate the new center in Buffalo.
The old Sheehan Hospital was purchased earlier this year by McGuire Development Co. for $2 million and the Time Warner Cable would be one of its anchor tenants. McGuire is considering significant upgrades to the property including the proposed makeover below prepared by architectural and engineering firm Carmina Wood Morris.
Today, “As Time Warner Cable searches for a new call center site on the East Coast, I’m urging them to put Buffalo on speed dial. I have contacted two top executives at Time Warner and vowed to do anything in my power to make this project a reality because I know it was such a win-win: Time Warner will benefit from Buffalo’s exceptional workforce and low cost of business, and this new facility could bring between 250 to 300 jobs and continued economic development to Buffalo’s east side,” said Schumer. “What’s more, I know that this new Time Warner facility could be a wonderful addition to the Michigan Street neighborhood.”
To date, Compass East is home to University Pediatric Dentistry, PC and temporary home to Langston Hughes Institute. Both tenants fall in line with McGuire’s objective of serving the neighboring community and working in common with the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission.
McGuire will continue to fill the 150,000 s/f campus with tenants focused on clinical medical delivery, science and technology operations, job growth and workforce educational training, as well as community revitalization organizations.
