Once Thursday in the Park (1987)… now Thursday at Canalside.
Once Buffalo Place rocks the Harbor… now Buffalo Place Rocks Canalside.
New event names for a fresh 2013 Buffalo Place concert season. Thursday at Canalside kicks off on Thursday, June 6 with The Hold Steady and Hollerado. Eighteen consecutive Thursdays ending with Lotus August 29. Starting time 5:00PM, until 9:30PM. Free admission to all of these.
Also there are six Buffalo Place Rocks Canalside shows in late June, July and August. Doors open at 6PM for these shows. They are all Friday-Saturday pairings. Tentatively Saturday August 31 concert is to be announced in the future. Something new this year, the weekend July 26-27 shows are free, in the past there was a charge to see weekend shows.
Where is it? Where do I park?
Canalside is in the heart of downtown Buffalo, the Inner Harbor. If you take the train from the north, just get off at the last stop, at the First Niagara Center. Look toward Canada and Lake Erie, and there you are.
Parking is free if you can find it. If not, there is a nice map of parking spots right here. On the map, you can find the concert site next to Erie Canal Harbor.
How do I get updates about concerts via text and app?
To receive texts about alerts, promotions, updates and concert reminders (a great way to wake up my friends, thank you) join the Concert Club by texting BPLACE to 25827 (Data charges may apply).
To get times, locations, maps, and more get your free app get on your smartphone and go to mobile.buffaloplace.com.
Shows to check out… my own bucket list to see this summer:
Thursday June 13 indie rock and neo-psychedelia Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
Thursday July 18 Texan Chicano power rockers Los Lonely Boys. I remember when they were scheduled to headline at Thursday at the Square a couple of years ago, they got rained out, and performed anyway at the Lafayette Tap Room.
Thursday July 25 who can ever forget their last visit to Western New York a few years ago when 80s English New Wavers The Fixx performed in North Tonawanda at Gateway Park.
Friday July 26th opener Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (Panda!), psychedelic roots reggae from nearby Rochester, NY seems like they may break out nationally. They open for the Wailers, sadly without Bob Marley and other original members as noted in the comment section of this post. But… still great reggae artists with a quarter of a billion in record sales.
