Second Generation Theatre Company

Three young women have set out to start up a new theater company in Buffalo. Kristin Bentley, Kelly Jakiel Copps and Arin Lee Dandes, all graduates of the SUNY Buffalo theater program, have found a home for their first production at The New Phoenix Theatre on Johnson Park in Downtown Buffalo. “The New Phoenix Theatre on the Park is THRILLED to help introduce Buffalo’s newest and most eagerly awaited Theatre Company, Second Generation Theatre,” said Richard Lambert, the Phoenix’s founder and executive director. “Kickstarting new talent is a mission that the New Phoenix has enjoyed since its inception in 1995. Having offered a home to Buffalo Ensemble Theatre, Subversive Theatre Company, Folkloric Dance company, Red Thread Theatre, Road Less Traveled Theatre and many more, the humble Phoenix continues to partner, produce and play with the best. AND the best of what is ahead. We couldn’t be prouder of the newest achievement of Buffalo’s thriving theatre scene. We can only hope to introduce the NEXT generation of Buffalo theatre, as well. Ladies and Gentlemen, Presenting Second Generation Theatre Company…”

“Buffalo is a place where you not only can have it all, but you can work on productions and pieces that many working actors in other cities only dream of. We have an amazing theatre legacy in this city of quality work, and we are thrilled to carry on that tradition set by the generation before us.” – Kristin Bentley

Second Generation Theatre Company (SGTC) plans on incorporating the talents of seasoned professionals, while shining a spotlight on many of Buffalo’s ‘up and comers’. The company’s premiere production of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony award-winning musical INTO THE WOODS, launches with performances from June 6-23, 2013 – Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.

I moved to Buffalo to attend Canisius College in 2007 and began writing for Buffalo Rising as a journalism intern in 2010. Working with Newell and meeting numerous entrepreneurs, activists and everyday folks who were working to make their city better made a huge impact on my decision to stay here. After witnessing all the positive development and grassroots initiatives happening in neighborhoods throughout the city, I was inspired to pursue a term of service in AmeriCorps and a career in Buffalo's non-profit sector. I currently work in the housing department at the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of WNY and am excited to be a part of their ongoing efforts to revitalize the Broadway Fillmore neighborhood. I also volunteer as the project coordinator for Artfarms Buffalo. I continue to write for Buffalo Rising because I love having the opportunity to stay connected to those working toward positive changes for the Queen City.
