Gentlemen Prefer Pits

Chelsea Green, owner of Pole Play Dance Studio and Eye Candy Burlesque (FB) in North Buffalo is inviting anyone with a love for pit bulls to attend an upcoming fundraiser at the Dnipro Ukrainian Center. All of the proceeds from the event will go towards the rescue group The Silver Lining for Pit Bulls. As for additional reasons to attend the event, Chelsea tells me that “There will be guest appearances from “Flick” from a Christmas Story and MMA fighter Gordon Shotgun Shell; a Chinese auction; free food; raffles; and live entertainment from 4pm until 11pm.  Local band Kickstart Rumble will be taking the stage with Eye Candy Burlesque as the featured highlight of the evening, with several numbers centered on Pit Bull awareness.”
The event takes place on Saturday June 15, 2013, and is designed to attract lovers of pit bulls, live music and burlesque dancers (not necessarily in that order). “Silver Linings for Pit Bulls (FB) rescues their dogs from only a few shelters that are located in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee that are trusted to disclose truthful information about the dogs’ health, temperament, and other characteristics,” said Chelsea. “A few of the shelters are high kill shelters that euthanize on a daily or weekly basis, simply because there are so many abandoned dogs in there area not spayed or neutered (mainly “pit bulls”) and abandoned (some even neglected and emaciated), and then one true “No Kill” shelter that has over 100 dogs living in outdoor kennels with igloo dog houses and roofing material or tarps to cover them from the elements. The dogs need our help and are so incredibly sweet and full of love.  Every penny earned at this event will go directly to the dogs.”

I moved to Buffalo to attend Canisius College in 2007 and began writing for Buffalo Rising as a journalism intern in 2010. Working with Newell and meeting numerous entrepreneurs, activists and everyday folks who were working to make their city better made a huge impact on my decision to stay here. After witnessing all the positive development and grassroots initiatives happening in neighborhoods throughout the city, I was inspired to pursue a term of service in AmeriCorps and a career in Buffalo's non-profit sector. I currently work in the housing department at the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of WNY and am excited to be a part of their ongoing efforts to revitalize the Broadway Fillmore neighborhood. I also volunteer as the project coordinator for Artfarms Buffalo. I continue to write for Buffalo Rising because I love having the opportunity to stay connected to those working toward positive changes for the Queen City.
