Another local film is getting ready to start production in and around the Buffalo area. Entitled Elizabeth Bathory, the film is inspired by the 16th century Hungarian countess who, as legend has it, drank and bathed in the blood of young servant women in a quest for beauty and eternal youth.
The film stars local actress Tilke Hill as the predatory character. The film is written and directed by Kenmore native Elizabeth Nixon who graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in media studies. The score of the picture is being composed by her brother Andrew Nixon also a U.B. graduate with a masters degree in music.
The film is about the relationship that unfolds between two female captives that are being held in Bathory’s dungeon. As they await their gruesome fate they begin to open up to one another and soon realize that each is not who they seem to be.
When asked what inspired them to write on this specific figure in history, Andrew Nixon stated “We discovered that years ago a man theorized that the mythical vampire came from people who actually suffered from a blood disorder that gave them symptoms we now associate with vampires like paleness and sensitivity to light, and before medical advances they self treated by drinking blood. It was suggested that historical figures such as Vlad the Impaler and Elizabeth Bathory suffered from this disease. Whether it is accurate or not, we thought it would be an interesting angle of a vampire story – the story of Elizabeth Bathory, a true biological vampire.”
Nixon promises that the film will have lots of local involvement and are shooting the entire film on location in Buffalo and Western New York including the Pierce Arrow Film Arts Center where they will be renting a green screen for some of the shots. The filmmaker currently has a Kickstarter campaign up and running, with a monetary goal of $4,000. There are different prizes given away along with certain donation levels. All money raised will go towards equipment rental and hiring local crew members.
