Enjoying the summer months in Buffalo usually means checking out your fair share of live music, yet it’s not very often that a benefit comes along this near and dear to so many. The Concert for a Cure will take place Sunday July 28th and is a tribute to John P. McGowan, benefiting The Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Corey McGowan has worked tirelessly in creating this concert as a tribute to his late father who sadly lost his battle with cancer in August 2011. During their time spent at Roswell, the McGowan family connected to the doctors and staff in a way that was surely not forgotten, which really was the inspiration for this all day musical extravaganza to take place. “To honor my late father and support the great organization of Roswell Park, I have created this event on my own,” said Corey. “At 23 years old, I am extremely passionate and dedicated to Buffalo and Roswell Park and wish to help spread the word of the Roswell concert event.”
The all-day concert will host classic rock band The Guess Who, known for such hits as ‘American Woman,’ ‘These Eyes,’ and ‘No Sugar Tonight.’ There will also be an incredible local showing of talent as well. Performances by bands such as Hit N Run, Route 66, The Informers, Leon and the Forklifts, The Heritage, Whiskey Reverb, Carl Motyka Band and Double Shot will round out the entertainment offerings for the day. In addition, the all day affair will include culinary selections for sale, from over 50 restaurants and vendors, such as Acropolis, The Delaware, Just Pizza and Bonefish Grill.
In spreading awareness for this disease, Corey McGowan and his family hope to do their part in remembering, honoring, and celebrating their beloved, while at the same time doing their part to ensure that institutions like Roswell Park can continue in their quest for a cure, and continue to offer their exceptional level of care, until they do.
The John P. McGowan “Concert for a Cure” will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Canalside, directly across from the First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo, NY. Tickets go on sale April 27th at 10 AM and are available through the event website at www.theconcertforacure.com or by calling Ticketfly at 1-877-987-6487. All proceeds that are raised from this event will be donated to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
