Where are you from originally?
Niagara Falls (NY) native
What is your medium?
Oil on canvas, drawing on canvas, mixed media
How has Buffalo influenced your work?
Buffalo has such a vibrant art scene; being surrounded by so many creative people helps to inspire me.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Struggles, memories, unanswered questions, things that excite me and make me happy, things that frighten me and make me anxious.
Name an artist (or more) that most inspires you?
Too many to name; it depends on the day and what I have been most recently looking at: my artistic preferences are diverse, but I suppose when I’m working on representational stuff I get my face into the old masters (Love de La Tour) and do often pay repeat visits to Magritte, Hopper, Bellows, Eric Fischl, Frida Kahlo, Lisa Yuskavich to name but a few.
What is your preferred subject matter?
I have been interested in robots and toys for quite a while. I also like the human figure, though I have been on a bit of a hiatus from it. I have some future plans.
How do you feel you can best advance to the next level, or are you most happy where you are now?
I am always struggling to advance; juggling time and resources…physical and intellectual resources. I feel far from where I’d like to be.
What is another medium that you would like to learn? Or that you have already learned?
I have experimented with mixed-media the past several years and enjoy it. I recently acquired some encaustic and am looking forward to trying it out.
Is there a purpose to your artwork?
Yes, though it seems ephemeral at times for me; it’s often revealed later on.
How often do you work on your art?
As much as is possible to keep myself “in it” but still allowing for all of the other important areas of my life such as teaching and parenting (neither of which I would trade). I have a very full life.
What or who first prompted you to venture into the art world?
Have you been schooled in art? Are you planning on attending art school? If so, where?
Yes, I have an MFA in painting.
Where is your favorite venue in Buffalo to exhibit?
I have enjoyed all who have had me. 🙂
Is there a gallery in Buffalo that you would like to show your work in, but haven’t yet?
Where did you learn your craft?
Some in college; more so in graduate school, working with other artists, but most importantly I am still learning.
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses?
Name one person that you would like to sell a work of art to?
Anyone who genuinely wants it.
What’s the best thing about being an artist?
Having the privilege to be true to myself.
What’s the worst thing about being an artist?
People’s misconceptions about it.
Where is your current/next show in the city? Dates? Opening night?

What is the title and theme of the show/s?
