Looking for something educational and cultural to do this weekend, that also happens to be free? The Buffalo Small Press Book Fair takes place Saturday, April 6th (from 12pm-6pm) and Sunday, April 7th (from 11am-5pm). This is a regional two day event that showcases booksellers, authors, bookmakers, zinesters, small presses, artists, and poets, and other cultural workers as they come together to educate and excite through their featured works, which will also be for sale.
The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Porter Hall, located at 453 Porter Avenue in Buffalo, will host the Fair. Last year saw over 115 vendors and more than 3000 participants, so by extending the fair this year to a two day event, it will provide the necessary space, and time, to experience and enjoy all the fun-filled sights and activities that the Book Fair offers. This year there will be 140 vendors and it is anticipated that participants will tally between 4,000-5,000. “The incredible growth of the Fair over the past seven years has required us to add more tables, open additional rooms, and finally, this year, host the event on Sunday as well,” said Chris Fritton, the organizer of the Fair. “This year we will have readings off-site the two nights prior, as well as number of other events taking place in conjunction with the weekend of the fair. The book fair has really become a week-long event that draws people from all over the Northeast and Midwest, and having activities on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday make that trip worthwhile.”
