February is the month of chilly gray days and even chillier and grayer evenings, but every other year, something very special manages to whisk away the gloom that this month brings. That something is PEEPSHOW, a high energy art party and fundraiser for Buffalo’s non-profit media arts center, Squeaky Wheel. This year’s PEEPSHOW is Hot Mess themed and will be taking place on Saturday, February 23 at the Dnipro Ukrainian center at 562 Genesee Street. For this occasion, the Dnipro will be stuffed to a pleasantly overwhelming extent with art, videos, performances, music, dancing, and every other kind of imaginable hot and messy surprise. We’ll be posting some preview highlights as the event approaches.
No PEEPSHOW is like any other – this is taken care of by the dozens of artists who create special one-night only installations that make it a truly magical and once-in-a-lifetime kind of evening. This year’s array will feature a science-fair-project-gone-mad volcano by Rachel Stover and J. Garrett Vorreuter; a ball-pit style set up filled with crocheted trash by Katja Chan Mee Fredericksen, Tom Holt, This, and Chelsea Wagner; an oral sex quiz game to test the wits of party-goers with the fabulous Mistress Head Mistress; a chance to pose as the label of a hot sauce bottle with Nancy Parisi, and much, much more.
Drinking from the Klein Bottle by Michael Bosworth will literally flip the party on its head – an inverted table and chair will hang from the ceiling in front of a projection of a room submerged in bubbly liquid (the included image is a still pulled from this effervescent video). Playing on the hot and/or messy theme of the event, many installations promise to throw attendees for a delightfully disorienting loop!
