Over the holidays we will be highlighting a number of members of Buffalo Society of Artists (BSA), so that you might support them by purchasing original works of art. Thanks to Paul Rybarczyk at BSA for helping me put these together. Visit the BSA website to learn more about the institution – one of the oldest continually operating arts organizations in the country. Next up on our list is artist Margaret Raab:
Margaret Raab is an Associate Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists. Associate Members are either members who have not gone past the jury process by BSA board members, or are choosing the alternate route of becoming Exhibiting Members by being juried into–by independent jurors–three BSA shows in a period of five years, or, Associate Members may not even be artists at all, but are supporters of the BSA.
“As an artist in Buffalo, New York, I have been exhibiting work since 2004. My work has been seen in numerous juried shows in western New York. I am a resident artist at the Buffalo Art Studio, and a member of the Western New York Artists Group, the Buffalo Niagara Artists Association and an Associate Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists.
“I have taught art for 27 years from elementary to collegiate level. I have degrees in art history, studio art and art education. As an art history major I had the opportunity to live and study in Italy. There, I was able to see many original works of Renaissance Artists. This experience resulted in a desire to create works that demonstrate the technical skills of rendering form and light to create a sense of drama. My medium is in charcoal and oil.
“I paint in a realistic style and my subject matter is primarily still life and nature. My recent works isolate and explore a close up view of the subject. It is meant to encourage the viewer to pause and take a closer look at objects we bring into our lives, and the nature that surrounds us. My work is intended to evoke a response, a memory or a feeling.
“Currently original works can be viewed at Art Dialogue Gallery, Dana Tillou Gallery, Buffalo Arts Studio and River Art Gallery. Prints are available at The Gallery at Partners in Art.
“Original paintings and prints which include still life, landscapes, floral, nature and genre are available at my studio at Buffalo Arts Studio or through my web site, margaretraab.com.”
