The annual Solar & Green Building Tour is two weeks away!

By Bernice Radle:
Western New York Sustainable Energy Association is bringing BRO readers a daily article about green buildings in Buffalo. Each green building will be available for you to see for FREE on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the WNY Solar Homes and Green Buildings Tour from 10am – 4pm. While this tour is not limited to the city itself, it is very important to give a HUGE cheer to the city of Buffalo because there are so many great projects within the city limits. For a full list of tour sites go to www.wnysea.com or www.energysage.com where the sites are searchable via zip code.
Today we are highlighting – The Super Small House (aka The Wee House) on corner of Ashland/Bryant:
This house is just plain fun – it is a great example of good infill development in Buffalo. The house is spacious and eco friendly! Come see it on October 13th. See back story when the house was first built and spurred a debate between neighbors.
The Wee House
Address: 322 Bryant Street Buffalo, NY 14222
Tour Hours: 10AM to 4PM
Square Feet: 624
Year Built: 2005
Construction or Renovation Cost: $50,000
Fuel Type: Natural Gas
Insulation Type: Batt/Blanket Fiberglass
Building Features: Radiant floor heating
Building Features Detail: Very Small Urban Infill Home. Standard but tight construction. Wood frame construction with a shallow frost protected foundation minimizes materials required. In floor radiant heating uses the domestic hot water tank for heat source, no furnace is required.
Special Considerations: Small size creates a house that performs well without special equipment. Urban “work at home” lifestyle minimizes environmental impact.
