Strong Women

There’s a very special calendar launch* coming up in Buffalo this November. The calendar is comprised of a series of images of Buffalo women who have survived cancer in some form. The idea behind the project came from Susan Morreale, owner of Lotions and Potions in the Elmwood Village. It was Susan’s daughter, Ciara, who reached out to me to tell me about the initiative that her mother and eleven other women were embarking upon. “My mom had the vision for this calendar after surviving breast cancer,” Ciara told me. “And realizing how many other women out there are going through or have been through the same battle, and seeing them live their lives with strength and beauty. The title of this collection is Strong Women, and is based around the quote “Strong Women: May we know them, may we raise them, may we be them.””
The women featured on the pages of the calendar are able to tell their own stories in a powerful light, through the medium of photography. It is on these pages that we see strong, caring, dynamic, humanistic people who have been through a painful experience, only to come together to share the ordeal with each other, and now the public. “In the calendar, we showcase 12 amazing women,” Ciara continued. “All currently living in the Buffalo area. Each month is a different women – the pages outline their respective stories, with a quote they live by, and three words that make them strong. They are all photographed with chandeliers, as we wanted to represent “light” and letting your light shine.”
*The calendar is being launched at November 8th, at a launch party at The Mansion on Delaware. Proceeds from the calendar go to the American Cancer Society.
