On November 11 2012, Peace Matters will be launching in Buffalo, an initiative that will then be replicated in Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles and other cities during a 2012-15 timeline. Peace Matters is being recognized as a movement that will help to “break cycles of poverty and overcome the tragedy of violence in Buffalo” and other cities. Buffalo is fortunate to have keynote speaker, Dr. Arun Gandhi (grandson of Mahatma K. Gandhi), who is scheduled to address guests/supporters/community leaders at the Peace Matters event, which is intended to help with the unprecedented creation of a unified Peace Council.
“Peace Matters connects and unifies Buffalo’s best–its compassion, wisdom, and greatness of heart–in an initiative toward conscious change and the possibility of Peace in our lifetime.” – Paula Connors
Present at the event will be community leaders and organizations that will help to identify the “the root causes of violence and strategize a course for conscious change”. While there are certainly other “violence to peace” and “poverty to empowerment” initiatives throughout the country and the world, Peace Matters hopes to serve as inspiration by drawing upon those who have already been successful in certain realms, but are in need of cohesion and support.
