It seems like there’s a running race just about every week in Buffalo, in all sorts of neighborhoods with varying distances. To run a race, runners must train for distance and weather considerations, but at the same time a runner pretty much knows what’s in store and how to prepare. In March of ’13 there is another type of race coming to Buffalo, and this one is completely different. It’s a race to the top of One HSBC Center, Buffalo’s tallest building. On the day of the race, participants are expected to climb the building’s 38 floors, which might not seem that difficult… until you hit the 20th floor.
The American Lung Association is already signing climbers up for the event, which takes place on Saturday, March 9. On that day, entrants can choose to race, run or walk up the stairs. The event is, of course, for a good cause (fighting all lung disease including lung cancer, COPD, and asthma), which means that the most important aspect is to enter and to attempt to finish. “While we accept registrations all the way up to the day of the climb, we encourage early bird registration because those who register early are generally most successful in their fundraising,” said Event Manager Bonnie Webster. “Every dollar raised for this event helps us prevent lung disease and supports people who are living with lung disease. We do everything we can to help our climb participants be successful.”
Questions about the event, including those regarding sponsorship opportunities, can be directed to Event Manager Bonnie Webster at buffaloclimb@LungNE.org or (585) 666-1392. Anyone who registers before October 31 is eligible for $10 off their registration fee and an official early bird t-shirt. To register, or to learn more about the Buffalo Fight for Air Climb, visit the event website. To qualify as an early bird use coupon code UPNE42 before October 31. The regular registration fee is $35 and increases to $50 on the day of the climb. All participants must raise $100 by event day.
