If you’re not familiar with ‘Plein-air’ then you need not worry. Plein air is merely a French expression meaning “in the open air”. On Saturday, September 22 from 9 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, September 23 from 10 am to 3:30 pm (rain or shine), Roswell Park Cancer Institute will be hosting an “art in” or “paint out” where dozens of artists will be able to choose a spot to paint outdoors.
The Plein-Air event, featuring Greater Buffalo artists such as Rita Argen Auerbach, Catherine Linder Spencer, Joan Langley Shaw, Mike Durkee and Ann Frank, is designed to encourage a healthy interaction between painters and visitors (normally voyeurs). It just so happens that on that Saturday, Roswell is also hosting Cruisin’ for a Cure (car show), which should be perfect in helping to draw car and art lovers to the campus at the same time.
The Rowell Park’s 28-acre campus is filled with all sorts of natural areas such as Kaminski Park and Gardens where artists can set up. There are water features, and walkways, gardens and public art installations. It’s a great place to host a plein-air artist event.
