Pierce Arrow Bar & Grill opened a short while ago at 1680 Elmwood Avenue. After passing by a few times I decided to stop in this week to take a look around – to see what sort of clientele was frequenting the pub. I popped in around 3pm – right around opening time. It didn’t take long to discover what sort of vibe to expect later in the evening. I was told that the bar’s Saturday karaoke night was a hit, and that a beer pong night might be next in line. Being located within close proximity to Buffalo State College, the bar should do well once the students are back in session.
As for the food, I was told that the burger is the biggest hit so far. Apparently it’s a big juicy burger and you can’t beat the price – for the size and quality it’s the best deal around. Actually, there’s a whole bar menu being served until the wee hours of the morning (three or four in the morning a a matter of fact). So here we’ve got late night food, karaoke, draught beer, PBRs, potential beer pong, fish fries, a patio, a couple of flat screens… and the atmosphere is pretty laid back and aesthetically appealing with lots of wood, tin ceilings and a new-looking tile floor.
While Pierce Arrow Bar & Grill is a ‘no frills’ sort of pub, the character and the activities will hopefully get people to come in from the neighborhood. I’m sure that come Sabres’ season, this place will be hopping with young hockey fans. Seeing that their neighbor is Papa Jake’s, a restaurant that has followed the same fairly straight-forward food and drink formula for years and years, this establishment might benefit from following a similar path, but for a younger clientele.
