On Saturday July 28, 2012, from 10am to 4pm, at River Fest Park, The Great Lakes Experience Festival will be held. So often we hear about environmental efforts taking place along our waterways, but we are so far removed that we take for granted that all will be well, ecologically speaking. There are numerous efforts underway to reclaim the natural beauty of our environs that have been scourged by industrial assaults for generations. We have subjected fragile ecosystems to hazardous elements for far too long… thankfully we are finally starting to see that the environment is an asset, not just a disposable resource.
Today we are looking forward to a time when see the fruits of our recent labors. What is the status of our environment and the ecology of our region? Who locally and nationally is making a difference when it comes to our environmental future? How will we engage our waterways in years to come? If you’ve ever been interested in the relationship between man and nature, past, present and future, then you need to check out the Great Lakes Experience Festival. Not only will you learn about our heritage, natural habitats and ecological issues, you will also be entertained by live music and electrofishing while enjoying good food and all around fun.
This festival was a big hit last year, and I anticipate that it will be even bigger and better this year. Love wild animals? Are you a kayaker? Fisherman? If you have a connection with the natural elements, then this festival is for you!
