It’s not often that you can say that you witnessed a community reading event and came away reenergized, reinvigorated and enlightened. Witnessing the first flash mob Buffalo Reading Invasion appeared to be a bit surreal… like something that you might read in a book actually. In this case, it really did happen. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction – especially when an activity that is not normally considered very social is exposed to flash mob practices.
I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book. ~Groucho Marx
Thanks to Buffalo Rising photographer Lukia Costello, we were able to catch some engaged readers participating in an engaging activity. Talk about team spirit. Isn’t it great to see the act of reading turned into a participatory exercise in enlightenment. I would say that this event captivated the imaginations of all involved. Sometimes it takes a Flash Mob sort of get together to shine a light on the cool factor something such as reading.
Anyone that witnessed this gathering of readers last evening (see more info) would have agreed that these are the sorts of activities that strengthen the Buffalo bonds and make us happy that we live in a city that appreciates a good read. Also an excellent use of one of the Olmsted Park System’s interconnecting parkways… can’t wait to see this group-read grow in years to come.
