We’re now seeing the initial effects of a plan to beautify the perimeter of Canalside. Whereas this parcel of land was still a mud pit last week, it is finally being spruced up with fresh sod and grass. This is the first parcel of land that many people see when coming to Canalside, as it is located at the terminus of Main Street. The three City-owned harbor area lots are located under The Skyway.
What we are seeing here is an initiative by the Sabres organization to work with The City in order to clean up one of the most significant ‘front yards’ in the region. While we have been seeing a significant investment made by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) to build new infrastructure around the Erie Canal Terminus, there has been a disconnect caused by multiple property owners responsible for taking care of the Inner Harbor.
It might behoove The City to sell this property to the ECHDC, so that there is less of a disconnect in the future. If it were not for The Sabres, we would still be looking at a giant mud pit.
