This weekend is action packed with all sorts of waterfront events taking place, from Dragon Boat races to the Rigidized Regatta. While visitors to the waterfront will witness all sorts of fun and unusual sights, there is also a special undertaking that all should be aware of. On Sunday, the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association (BSRA) will present the inaugural Round-the-Stake rowing race.
The race is designed to pay tribute to the legendary rowing scene in Buffalo around the turn of the century. Now, with all of the rowing advancements that we are seeing as of late, it’s time to bring back some of those infamous events. “In the early 1900s, fierce competitors from Buffalo’s 14 rowing clubs duked it out in the canal and Buffalo River amidst the barge and Lake traffic in Buffalo’s bustling commercial port,” said Meg Lauerman of the BSRA. “Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association will recreate this historic rowing race along the Buffalo River and Inner Harbor. Spectators can watch from the Canal side boardwalk to Michigan street Bridge and follow races along the Arena promenade.”
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the rowers, and while you’re at it be sure to stop over to Buffalo’s two newest waterfront parks – Mutual Riverfront Park and Riverfest Park. Here’s the complete line-up for Riverfest, which starts today!
