While we’re seeing a steady increase in the number of outdoor live music shows this summer, mainly at Canalside, Riverfest Park and Larkin Square, there is still another untapped venue that is about to be activated. Believe it or not a concert series is underway for the Outer Harbor, and if all goes well we will be looking at the introduction of ongoing live music programming for years to come.
Thanks to Funtime Presents – independent music promoters Donny Kutzbach and Artie Kwitchoff – the first couple of concerts are already booked. “Funtime Presents teamed up with After Dark (Chris Ring),” Donny told me. “And we put in a proposal with the NFTA to use the Outer Harbor space (where The Pier used to be) to produce concerts between May and September (Outer Harbor Concert Series). This is strictly us as independent promoters taking a risk to bring some outdoor events to a great space in Buffalo. Other than the shows that we have just announced (see below), we have a couple more shows that will be announced in coming weeks.”
Donny also told me that now that they have secured the space, there will be more time to promote the concerts in coming years (if all goes well), while bringing in larger line-ups. Now it’s up to us to support this amazing initiative. Here’s what we can look forward to so far from Funtime Afterdark:
