Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Staff Review by Patricia Covley:
When people of a certain age think of Judy Collins, they consider a sweet voiced folkie who recorded such songs as “Both Sides Now” and “Someday Soon.” How could anyone with such a pure voice have anything but an idyllic life?
In Sweet Judy Blue Eyes, Collins candidly discusses not only her career in folk music and her many relationships – but also her long struggle with alcoholism. From her father, host of a radio show in Denver, she inherited not only his passion for music and entertainment, but also his addictive personality. Collins openly and at great length discloses the effect of her alcoholism on her personal life and her career. She also frankly discusses her son’s struggle with addiction and the heartbreak of his eventual suicide.
Sweet Judy Blue Eyes is an intimate memoir that belongs in the “to be read” pile of any baby boomer who has followed Judy Collins’ lengthy career.
