La Tee Da has always had an amazing back patio, there is no question. And who doesn’t like to hang out on a sweet patio when the weather is nice? As much as there are some great patios in Buffalo, there are few that can hold a candle to La Tee Da’s. First of all, the giant tent-like awning that covers the better part of the courtyard has ceiling fans for when it is hot, and heaters for when it is cool. The golden color of the awning gives off a warm glow as the sun goes down, and the sides drop down to protect visitors from the wind and rain, while rolling them up showcases manicured gardens dotted with sculptures, planters and tiki torches. There are flower arrangements at the patio bar, and cut flowers on every table. Whimsical artwork and candlelit tables abound, creating an atmosphere that is part romantic dining and part chill bar setting. While the bar may be chill, the patio seating comes complete with warm shawls for chilly diners should there ever be a nip in the air. It is this sort of attention to detail that elevates the dining experience as one of the best in the city. Thankfully, the culinary options are on par with the breathtaking surroundings.
The food options are wonderful – there are many healthy and gluten free options, considering the elegant and upscale atmosphere. La Tee Da is well known for serving zesty eggplant wings, while the spinach balls come in a close second. For the meat eaters, the carpaccio is outstanding – almost decadent as it is sliced to paper thinness. The well rounded menu covers all the bases, with fresh fish, tender meats, and insanely satisfying pasta dishes. Rarely on a menu will you find both a vegan caponata and a ragu bolognese… not to mention one of the most satisfying ahi tunas around. Four flavor packed salads should satisfy those looking to placate their diets, while the three cheese lasagna and the flat iron steak stick out as the most gluttonous items on the menu. Wash everything down with a crisp bottle of Moretti before indulging in a sampling of some of the best vegan ice cream that you will ever put in your mouth.
The fact that the patio at La Tee Da overshadows the restaurant’s sultry interior dining room, is a testament to the owner’s impeccable vision. Not only is the courtyard on The Garden Walk this year, live entertainment on Wednesdays (music by Mick Hayes) speaks to the bohemian energy that ties this restaurant into its urban surroundings. La Tee Da is an example of how to create a fulfilling culinary experience without going overboard. Flip flops and jeans are just as welcome as stilettos and LBDs.
