The last time that I remember it pouring rain at the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament (being held again in Buffalo this weekend) was back in 2006. While the event started off on a cloudy note, it didn’t take long for the skies to open up and let loose. While tournament play was suspended for a while, and players huddled together at the top of the steps at City Hall, somehow the games continued despite the grizzly weather.
While many of the city’s festivals will have the added insurance of tents this weekend, it’s kinda tough to play basketball under tent, no matter the size. Alas, I do remember the rain bringing with it some incredible moments as well. For one thing, unless it’s raining sideways, the mantra is still “Game On!” from what I recall. So if you’re one of the 4000+ players, or planning on being one of the 50,000 spectators, the family-friendly event will continue to shine despite what Mother Nature might have planned.
The Police Athletic League of Buffalo is proud to present the 2012 Buffalo Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.
