As if The BASH, Buffalo Greek Fest, the Saturday Artisan Market (SAM) and Pride festivities weren’t enough to plan for this weekend, we can’t forget about Taste of Diversity taking place this Saturday at the corner of Lafayette and Grant Street (June 2 – 11am to pm). To think that this all-day festival stretches throughout various meal times… it’s enough to get any stomach hankering for incredible ethnic cuisine (the true tastes of the West Side).
I’m sure that you’ve heard about all of the ethnic diversity that can now be found in and around Grant Street? Well, now you will be able to get a sampling of various cuisines from around the world with just one stop. Plus there’s always great music, crafts, clothing and artistic treasures to be found too. According to People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH), “Organizers hope that this year will be the beginning of bigger (and brighter) things to come. The festival, set to feature Middle Eastern Belly Dancing and free hand henna tattoo artistry, will also sell food from a variety of ethnic groups like Ethiopia, the Caribbean Islands and Asia. And, for those interested in learning how to make these exotic dishes at home, festival organizers will provide guests with a “Taste of Diversity Cookbook” upon a $2 donation. The cookbook will also be made available at 205 Grant Street’s local bookstore, Westside Stories.”
This festival first started in 2003, and this year the heart of the festival is moving to the exact intersection of Grant and Lafayette, which should change the overall dynamic by connecting the festivities to more of the businesses that have helped to allowed the ethnic communities to flourish.
