Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Batavia, been in Buffalo since 1995
What is your medium?
Photography
How has Buffalo influenced your work?
It’s given me both a place to grow and thrive as as an artist and with all its great architecture a place to work as a photographer
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
All the great photographers that have come before me… and some of my friends that do good work
Name an artist (or more) that most inspires you?
Henri Cartier Bresson, Gary Winogrand, Harry Callahan, Robert Frank, Alfred Stiglitz
What is your preferred subject matter?
Mostly architecture, but I never limit myself when it comes to subject matter….everything’s fair game to me.
What or who first prompted you to venture into the art world?
I started photographing bands and soon turned my camera to the world around me.
How do you feel you can best advance to the next level, or are you most happy where you are now?
Keep making the “stuff”
What is another medium that you would like to learn? Or that you have already learned?
I painted abstractly for a few years when I was in college
Is there a purpose to your artwork?
I’d like to think that while I’m documenting the world around me I’m also creating enduring images that inspire
How often do you work on your art?
All the time, it never stops..pretty sure that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
Have you been schooled in art? Are you planning on attending art school? If so, where?
I started at Genesee Community College where my communication degree got me into photography and finished at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the Fine Art Photography Department
Who would you most like to sell a work of art to?
Anyone that my work inspires to spend their hard earned money on…it’s really the biggest compliment
Where is your favorite venue in Buffalo to exhibit?
Anywhere that people can see my work. I love being part of the Co-op Exhibits at my gallery ( College Street Gallery)
Is there a gallery in Buffalo that you would like to show your work in, but haven’t yet?
The Albright-Knox, Burchfield-Penney and the Anderson Gallery, before i’m dead

GCC and RIT

An inability to kiss ass or BS people

There are too many talented people making art in Buffalo for me to choose one
Where is your current/next show in the city? Dates? Opening night?
I’m opening the 16×20 Show on Friday May 18th 6-8pm at my Queen City Gallery
Anything else?
I love a line someone used in regard to John Coltrane in a documentary once… they said, “He was always trying to be better than he was…” and I think that’s a pretty admirable goal.
