After witnessing Elmwood’s first Easter Bonnet Parade last year, I vowed that I would return again this year… with a creative hat too! The inaugural event was such a blast, with people coming from all over the city donning custom creations to parade about on the lawn of the Unitarian Universalist Church before heading off in a colorful march towards the final destination – Lafayette Presbyterian Church. As it so happens, I happened to capture a number of the parade-goers and was able to put together a short slide show (see below). That should give you a sense of what to wear if you’re planning on attending this year.
If there was ever a family event where the kids shine alongside the parents, this is it. Plus, there is a very unitarian (inclusivist) vibe that is felt throughout the entire production. If you’re a fan of the pride parade and the stiletto run, then add this one to your list as well. From the Elmwood Village Association:
On Sunday, April 8th Elmwood Avenue will once again hold the Easter Bonnet Parade from 1:00pm until 2:30pm. Volunteers are needed to assist with the parade route and other various tasks associated with the event. If you would like to help please email Becky Gandour at becky@elmwoodvillage.org.
