Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Staff Review by Carol Ann Strahl:
Lone Survivor is a remarkable true story of perseverance and valor. The author is the sole survivor of “Operation Redwing” in Afghanistan. The book explores what it takes to be a member of the elite Navy Seals. They have a shared patriotism, courage and mutual trust. Their promise to each other is never to leave a man behind, dead or alive.
The tenacity of the Seals is reflected in their final sacrifice and in the mettle of Marcus Luttrell who somehow exerts superhuman physicality and mental toughness in a deadly situation. We read what bravery is all about.
Every time I hear or read about an overpaid, pampered athlete supposedly putting his body on the line, I will hearken back to real heroes who defend us daily. Upon finishing this book, the reader will have a deeper respect for our military and all the trials they undergo for a greater good. How proud you will be of these men who represent the best of America.
