Boomdays is an event that is truly unique to Buffalo. It incorporates so much of our past, present and future… it actually tells a story of where we are and where we are going. Boomdays was the idea of a number of movers and shakers who understood that in order to capitalize on our future we need to pay tribute to our past. Each year we see hundreds of people flock to the Buffalo River, the Peace Bridge, the Inner Harbor… all along the waterfront to experience the past as it transforms into the future. This year, Boom Days will be even that much more special because the venue is changing up. For the first time, Boomdays will be held at Elevator Alley. It’s the Ten Year Anniversary, and waterfront enthusiasts and historians, beer lovers and artists alike, will gather at the hulking industrial relics to pay tribute to “Buffalo… pure and simple.”
It all starts with a pub crawl Friday night. I’m not talking about any ol’ pub crawl either. I’m talking about a First Ward pub crawl that will take you to the haunts made famous by both grain scoopers… and now the Angry Bees. On Saturday Boomday Bash will feature live music, an unusual Ball Drop, grain elevator tours, art exhibits, food trucks, and beer… a mini micro called Ice Boom Bock brewed by Buffalo’s very own Flying Bison Brewery. “How cool is it to have this unique Buffalo event in the Perot Grain Elevator?,” asked Marti Gorman, one of the organizers behind the iconic waterfront event. “To drink Flying Bison Bock in the historic Malt House? Free grain elevator tours, fireworks, the Cotter fireboat, live music and fine photography. It’s just so Buffalo!” Not to mention how ironic it is that the ten year anniversary of the event also marks an unusually warm season that saw the removal of the ice boom earlier than expected – and not a lot of ice to boot.
It’s time to celebrate spring in true Buffalo fashion. It’s time to try something completely different – bring your friends and family and explore one of the city’s coolest and relatively untapped areas along the waterfront. Get inspired by Silo City at Boomdays. Support this version of Industry Night and rally behind a ‘marketing initiative’ that will help to change the face of the Buffalo River.
