Details Magazine‘s latest issue features a nice segment on Rust Belt cities, including Cleveland, Detriot and Buffalo. Giving kudos to a new breed of urban activists, the article highlights a number of People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) initiatives starting with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and leading up to an impressive foray into the world of sustainable building practices.
Not to be outdone, Justin Booth of Green Options Buffalo shows what it takes to bring bike culture to the Buffalo masses, and even though Rusty Chain Beer never made it into the article, there are hints of Green Options’ next big move – into the Niagara Bicycle Building.
I wish that Massachusetts Avenue Project’s giant hoop house and aquaponics project was mentioned, but that will have to wait until next time. I suppose that getting bummed that more Buffalo grassroots projects weren’t mentioned is a good sign – if we were only able to hang our hat on a couple of significant actions, then we wouldn’t be moving in the direction that we are now.
Thanks to Billy Nastyn for taking the time to send us the article in its entirety.
