On Saturday May 12 at Tralf Music Hall, guitar enthusiasts will be treated to a special line-up of world class guitarists from the Greater Buffalo area. For one night, guitarists Dave Constantino, Mick Hayes, Frank Nicastro and Michael Distantro will come together to bring The Tralf walls down. The line-up is described as an evening filled with music ranging from the “Buffalo rock-n-roll royalty of Dave Constantino to hot young gun Frank Nicastro to the blues and soul of Mick Hayes to the soul and R&B of Michael DiSanto.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect from each performer:
Dave Constantino has a tasteful & polished blues rock style that has made him a legendary Western New York and National Guitarist and Singer. In the mid sixties he founded The Tweeds and wrote the 1967 regional hit “A Thing of the Past”. In the early seventies he joined forces with Drummer, Paul Varga and Bassist, Billy Sheehan to form the powerhouse trio, Talas. Talas became a Western New York success story and gained international recognition with classics like Dave’s song, “See Saw”. Their popularity extended into the 1990’s when they played reunion concerts to sold out shows, which led to live CD releases and international concerts. Dave has established himself as a regional icon with bands like Shyboy and most recently, The Dave Constantino Band. The Dave Constantino Band performs live throughout Western New York and has released “Bump in the Road” to rave reviews.
Mick Hayes is sculpting the sound of Contemporary Blues and R&B today with powerful vocals and extraordinary guitar playing. Mick holds the homegrown skills that pass through all of the Blues sub-categories in one show. Mick has preformed in front of huge crowds numbering in the upper 20,000’s and opened for bands such as The Doobie Brothers, Peter Fampton, Dickie Betts, Cheap Trick, Los Lonely Boys, Dave Mason, Duke Robillard, Robin Trower and many more. Mick has shared the stage along side with Gary Mallaber, Michael Burkes, Tony Galla, Smokin Joe Kubek, Joe Bonamassa, Will McFarlane and several more. Mick had the honor of being inducted into the ‘Buffalo Music Hall Of Achievement’ as a solo artist and also for the work he has done with his band last year. He added “The Golden Buffalo” awards along side many others that are now all part of an extensive list of accomplishments he has obtained over a short period of time.
Young gun guitar slinger Frank Nicastro has been touring the nation for the past three years displaying his hybrid rock style to the masses. A member of two of WNY’s most popular acts of the past ten years, the REV and Strictly Hip, Frank is rapidly becoming one of the most recognizable guitarists in the area. His work with the jazz and classical act, The Sonare Duo, is further testimony to his diverse and open approach to the guitar. Nicastro is a graduate of both the Villa Maria and University of Buffalo music programs. He was also a finalist in Cleveland Ohio’s Jimi Hendrix Guitar Competition. Having shared stages with multiple national acts, including the Super Bowl in Dallas TX in 2011, Frank Nicastro has proven again again that he belongs on the big stages around the nation. Frank recently finished guitarwork on studio sessions with Ron Hawkins (Lowest Of The Low) and is planning to record and release an album of his original material in the near future. Equally comfortable on the Stratocaster, Les Paul, Jazz Box, and acoustic guitar, Frank Nicastro represents a genre defying style that is influenced by Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical and much more. Frank Nicastro plays music.
Setting his focus on a soulful, honest approach to making music, Buffalo, NY’s Michael DiSanto has spent more than half his life cultivating a versatile, authentic, and diverse guitar style that has become truly his own. Passionately incorporating elements of R&B, Gospel, Reggae, Blues, Neo-Soul, and Jazz into his playing, he has become a “first-call” guitar player for artists at the local and national levels. Michael has played for national recording artists Noel Gourdin, Chantae Cann, and Quadir Lateef. Recently, he has had the privilege to share the stage with Blue Note artists Soulive, as well as legendary soul drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. He has also opened for India.Arie, The Roots, Marcus Miller, and Average White Band, just to name a few. In addition to occasional tour dates, Michael holds down a handful of weekly gigs and can regularly be seen playing alongside the top musicians in the many genres that Buffalo has to offer. Michael was named “Top R&B Guitarist” at the 2009 Buffalo Music Awards
