The expansion of the Pierce Arrow Transportation Museum is one of those ongoing developments that we have heard about for a long time, but the details are still a little fuzzy. That’s partially due to the fact that we’ve seen all sorts of architectural renderings, yet haven’t seen much as far as the interior make-up of the museum. Up until this point the exterior design has been the flag that owner James Sandoro has been waving, while many of us have been waiting for a real glimpse into the different components of the museum. Fortunately Motor Week has just released a video that casts an amazing light on some of the details which can help us to see a more in-depth vision of the expansion.
The following video is a first hand look into Sandoro’s one of a kind Pierce Arrow collection currently on display at The Pierce Arrow Transportation Museum. Even more exciting is the coverage of the $15,000,000 museum expansion that is now under construction. The additional 35,000 sq.’ space will allow many of the automotive artifacts now residing in storage facilities to once again see the light of day. That, along with a Frank Lloyd Wright designed filling station should give Buffalo a big boost when it comes to historic and automotive tourism.
While viewing the expansive interior, I couldn’t help but think that there would be enough room to house a local bicycle museum that is still in search of a home. The combination of the two museums would be impressive to say the least (see Goldman article). After an overseas purchase deal fell through, the Buffalo Pedaling History Museum is still on the market. Hopefully, one day, we will be able secure this major piece of Buffalo transportation history for future generations to enjoy. At this point, the collection can be bought for $2.5 million. Maybe it’s time to take another look at the possibilities.
