After witnessing some truly unimpressive facade mishaps around town, it’s nice to see someone actually spending some time and money in order to spruce up a building. The former Claiborne Liquor location has gone from being jacked-up to looking impressive – and the work is not even complete. The liquor store had been at this 149 Elmwood location for as long as I can remember, and during that time it always had a rundown appearance.
When I first saw that work was being performed on the building, after Claiborne moved down the street, I asked a couple of the neighbors who or what was moving in. They told me that the property owner was fixing up the building hoping to attract a tenant. Now that’s being proactive! Instead of letting the facade and the interior sit around and wallow in misery, the owner has stepped up and is adding some needed character to the structure. Even better, the building owner didn’t wait for a holiday to avoid detection while sneakily installing an ‘Acme Special‘. All of the appropriate permit papers are in the window, and this building looks as if it’s good to go.
