Wegmans, the grocery store we all know and love, has turned itself into something of an Alec Baldwin popularity poll.
See, Alec Baldwin (and his mom) made Wegmans a national sensation when he went on Letterman and talked about how his mom wouldn’t dare move away from her beloved Wegmans. On the heels of that clip, Wegmans enlisted Baldwin to serve as a pitchman in some television commercials.
The Alec Baldwin Wegmans commercials starting airing again this holiday season. At the same time, Baldwin made news again for getting kicked off an American Airlines flight for playing Words with Friends after electronic devices were supposed to be turned off.
Apparently, this offended the sensibilities of some Wegmans customers as they called the company to complain that Baldwin, a renegade who wouldn’t obey the commands of flight attendants, was associated with Wegmans. So Wegmans relented and said they’d stop running the Alec Baldwin spots.
But then even more people complained that Wegmans was ditching Baldwin so Wegmans has reversed itself and will continue to let the Baldwin commercial air.
If you’re keeping score at home, that means Wegmans ran the spots. Then stopped the spots. And now they’re re-running the spots. Got it? Okay good.
