While revelers were partying the night away at The Statler on New Year’s Eve, another celebration was underway at 5 East Huron. That’s where Iskalo Development held its own VIP Ball Drop party. I spoke to Iskalo Marketing Manager Jonathan Gill who told me that the Ball Drop was designed to showcase the 5 East Huron space since the development company has begun to spruce it up recently (beyond the initial investment) in order to proactively find a tenant. “We installed new mechanical systems and restrooms,” he told me. “And we did a bunch of cleaning and painting and the place looks great – it is coming along nicely. Given the success of the VIP party, a night club or restaurant seems to be a perfect fit. I’m sure some creative retail uses could be determined as well. To supplement parking at the Electric Tower, we built the lot at Oak and Huron. As daytime workers leave, evening visitors would complement and could utilize that lot. We also purchased 337 Ellicott which as it stands could hold 70+ cars in its 32,000SF frame. So we have some very real parking options to work on with a prospect.”
As for nearby access to other amenities, 5 East Huron is situated mere feet from the Metro Rail, is visible from The Hyatt, the Electric Tower, Fountain Plaza (Rotary Rink), and is in close proximity to Genesee Gateway, Chippewa, Market Arcade… in fact, it is centrally located to a vast number of destinations and would act as a high-profile connecting point. The floors are in great shape, there are high ceilings, vast windows and fairly intact wall frescoes that would hopefully be preserved by any new tenant.
