It’s been a while since I’ve seen any major activity on the Sugar City stretch of Wadsworth. It’s hard to believe that it was way back in 2008 when we first started noticing significant improvements taking place on a couple of residential properties. That was shortly after the Falcon Building was suddenly demoed. Wendes Jones, who then owned the properties was on a tear, adding a needed boost to the street in the form of incremental property improvements (see initial post).
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that work had commenced on the property seen in the lead image. I snapped a photo and went back to see if I had documented the house back in 2008. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that the windows had not just been fixed up, they had been completely replaced with a new look – the former rectangular windows (see below right) were now rounded off at the top. I even second guessed myself a couple of times thinking that it was a different house entirely. It’s the same house alright. Quite an improvement and it’s not even done.
I snapped a Google screen shot (further below) to show the house as it appeared before work got underway. It’s my hope, that these types of projects inspire others to look at Buffalo’s old housing stock while rethinking the possibilities.
