2011 ‘Buy Local’ Holiday Shopping: Day 14 – NEO Gift Studio

Chances are, if you’ve shopped Allentown or the Elmwood Village, you’ve probably purchased something at NEO Gift Studio. NEO has something for everyone – male/female, young/old… I’ve purchased a lot of presents there over the years, and yet I always find myself entertained with the latest and greatest items. If there was ever a shop where it was tough to single out the greatest ideas, then NEO would have to be it. NEO is also the shop that you end up purchasing something for yourself… ah, the guilty pleasures!

Best Seller:
Believe it or not, one of this year’s best sellers is the ‘NO!’ button. I admit that it’s a bit gimmicky, but I guarantee that everyone has a person on his or her list that could use one of these. Once someone starts hitting the ‘NO!’ button, it’s hard to stop. When the shop’s dog began to bark, the “NO!” button came in super handy. The desk toy features a wide assortment of voices, saying, shouting and laughing the word, “NO!” It’s times like this when you just have to sit back and ask yourself, “Now why didn’t I think of that?” The button sells for $10.50 and at that price it has literally been flying off the shelf.
NEO’s #1 Pick:
Who wouldn’t want a retro phone handset as a gift for the holidays? This gift is a riot, and it’s kinda useful. Think back to your youth… OK, I’ll think back to my youth, when phones actually had those annoying cords that connected the base to the handset. For those of us who might be a wee bit nostalgic, this item is a lot of fun! Who would have thought that the cord and handset would someday be cool? Just plug the cord into your cell phone and get the conversation started. This conversation piece sells for $29.95 and comes in purple, red, black and cobalt.

While you’re visiting NEO, why not stop over to Hu’s Discount Store? I wrote about the business almost a year ago to this day (see post), and in that time I’ve picked up some decent kitchen knives, sunglasses and even some tools. Earlier today I walked in to take a look around, and discovered that the discount store carries a wide assortment of inexpensive kitchen accessories. These make the perfect stocking stuffers for anyone who has just moved into an apartment and is in dire need of the basics – peelers, slicers, stirrers, basters, openers, spoons, scissors, etc. The price? Cheap!
