Buffalo hometown business hero, Perry’s Ice Cream, has just relaunched a flavor that pays homage to one of the worst blizzards to hit the region in recent memory. I am, of course, referring to The Blizzard of ’77 – a storm that some of us remember and all of us have heard of. It was the ‘perfect storm’ if ever there was one. It was the storm that put our city on the map for snowy weather, leaving us to wonder (to this day) if we would ever shake the chilling images – many of which appeared on cold and flu medication commercials for years after the storm.
35 years later Perry’s is bringing all of those memories back, except that this time instead of shoveling out your car, the object is to scoop the “snowy white coconut ice cream and a flurry of shredded coconut pieces with a hint of rum flavor (to warm your bones)” right into your mouth. The regional ice cream company first launched Zero Visibility back in 1997 to mark the 20-year anniversary of the blizzard. Now the flavor is back on the shelves, and after it’s gone it won’t be back for another five years. See, one good thing did come from that insane storm, other than a fun board game.
Hey, don’t just take it from me, here’s company Executive VP Brian Perry to share his memories of the storm:
