Benefactors could be arts organizations, medical causes, park systems and various other needy groups. In a city like Buffalo, where there is so much home pride, something like this would mean that drivers with the plate would carry a message with them wherever they would go. And feel good about supporting local non-profits.
During a recent conversation with someone who had just moved to Buffalo, she told me something that I found refreshing. She said that she had lived in a lot of different cities, but she had never seen so much pride when it came to people wearing local t-shirts, applying stickers on cars and buying and selling Buffalo products. That got me thinking about a fun way to market Buffalo in a way that I believe could help market our city in a very inexpensive and subtle way.
Why not give locals the option of obtaining a cool blue Buffalo license plate for an extra $20 – and the extra money could go towards their favorite local charity? I’d be down at the DMV tomorrow if I could get a plate that showed my hometown pride. Think of the charities that would benefit. I bet that this would be a win-win for the city and non-profit organizations that are always looking for money.
