By Frits Abell:
Excerpts from a conversation between Anthony Billoni, of Artist & Model fame, and Frits Abell, of the Buffalo Expat Network, from several months ago. The end result is the formation of something great.
Frits: “Tony, Buffalo needs a new dance party-one where friends, culture-lovers and general do-good’ers, turning this city around, can come together, socialize and let off some damn steam.”
Tony: “That is too cool, like a groovy salon. Ever since I found my first iPod under the Xmas tree, I realized I could use this dyngus to own and hear more music than I could have ever listened to in the OLD days. So, I got with friends who are music lovers and glommed some of their top tunes – stuff I probably would have never listened to.”
Frits: “Yes. Let’s marry the two, like a Reese’s Cup.”
Tony: “We’ll call it PPL (personal play list) Salon.”
Frits: “Salon is okay-but a bit too stiff maybe?”
Tony: “Stiff? I’ve got it! How about saloon – as in get good and stiff. PPL Saloon. Here’s how it works: people can come and enjoy the fun or, if they want, throw their tunage into the mix, bring us a snippet of your faves to share with the rest of us. Make it fun, dancy, ecclectic and most of all – 15 minutes maximum. Give us one of those “Wow! I want that song” moments.”
Frits: “I have the perfect venue: Elmwood Lounge. It’s central, it’s quirky, it has character. And, let’s do this every month.”
Tony: “I just knew you returned to Buffalo for a reason.”
Frits: “I haven’t “returned”….I’m just spending more time.”
So was born the new PPL Saloon. Send Frits or Tony a note via Facebook, or just bring your player and we will plug it in on the 17th. Plus DJ PROJEX will have his rig set up for some extra sensory surprises. The Whole Hog will be parked alongside for some delicious eats (yes, we support food trucks’ rights).
