The West Side Bazaar is coming to Elmwood this holiday season. This past summer was a good one for Grant Street, as it marked the opening of an artisan market featuring goods from all over the world. Many refugees living on the city’s West Side supply the merchandise for the market, and in turn they learn how to operate a kiosk within the space. The bazaar is an incubator of sorts, giving the public an eye into the lives of the refugees while giving the refugees life lessons that they will carry on with them and pass onto future generations.
While the bazaar is a big success on Grant Street, the operators are aware that they are missing out on a segment of the population that sticks closer to its shopping comfort zones – namely Elmwood and Hertel. That’s why the market is teaming up with ZGM Fine Arts to present a Global Market this holiday season. Along with all of the worldly creations supplied by the bazaar, ZGM will be featuring many of its own artists in a gallery space that is still somewhat under the radar. This is not a substitute for the bazaar – rather it is a convenience and marketing tool, so don’t forget to stop by the West Side Bazaar’s home (242 Grant Street near Guercio’s) to browse the full line of gifts available.
Starting November 17, Bazaar Hours are Thursday and Friday nights from 5-10 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Featured countries: Peru, Rwanda, South Sudan, Indonesia and Nepal. Additional ZGM Fine Arts hours are Friday & Saturday 10-5, and Sunday 12-4.
OPEN HOUSE: Saturday, December 3, 5-10 pm…featuring “roots rock reggae” music (7-10 pm) with Neville Francis and The Riddim Posse. Light refreshments will be served.
