Although e-Cafe has actually relocated to 487 Main Street, it is situated only a couple of doors down from Main (St)udios (corner of Main and Mohawk) thus contributing to the momentum of the 500-block. The cafe recently moved from its original location fronting Washington, just around the corner in a more obscure location (the Lafayette Court Building – see post). The move adds needed vibrancy to Main Street while giving the beautiful Carmina Wood and Morris Building a worthy tenant. The interior of the cafe is wide open, with exposed brick, bistro seating, a window bar (supplied with desktop computers and access to the Internet) and order and pick-up stations. Come spring the desolate Mohawk Plaza will be filled with cafe seating. The life added to the plaza will be a blessing, considering that it’s normally vacant other than a vagrant or two milling about.
The presence of e-Cafe will do wonders for walking traffic on the block, as it will be more than just a coffee and sandwich destination – the owners are hoping to score a beer and wine permit in order to set themselves apart from the rest of the coffee shops downtown. This, my friends, is the perfect opportunity to rebrand this area – one that will go hand-in-hand with the many other initiatives that we have been seen over the last few months. Not only does the cafe have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, the location couldn’t have been more perfectly positioned to help bolster Main Street’s momentum.
