In other mural news, muralist Augustina Droze is back in town to add another 100′ of scenery to the Olmsted Legacy Mural. The additional work means that the mural will be 365′ when complete. And what could be more fitting than wrapping up the piece with an homage to Frederick Law Olmsted and his partner Calvert Vaux? Here’s a video showing the mural with first phase 265′ section completed. Augustina has decided to stick around Buffalo until June of next year, which means that she’ll be here to help out with other mural initiatives.
The mural completion is befitting as the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy continues rolling out the red carpet for the upcoming National Trust conference. Over the weekend over 1000 mums will be planted throughout the park system – a befitting tribute to many of the wonderful images that are seen on the Olmsted Legacy Mural. It should also be noted that substantial landscaping work is underway along the Jesse Kriegel Path that winds along the Scajaquada Creek (photo below). The work is part of the Creek Bend Overlook project. The goal is to create areas along the trail where people can rest and take in their surroundings. Much of the invasive species are being pulled and replanted with indigenous trees and shrubs.
