If you haven’t heard of Minus the Bear yet, then you have surely been missing out. The Indie/ Prog rock band is celebrating their ten year anniversary with a very special tour, and one of their stops is at the
Town Ballroom Oct 13. To celebrate a decade as a band, MTB’s new live set offers fans something unique by integrating their 2002 debut release Highly refined Pirates in its entirety
into their full set.
The fivesome that is Minus the Bear began their journey in 2002 with Highly refined Pirates and has since released four full- length albums. Their latest is OMNI, released through Dangerbird Records. MTB decided to collaborate with producer Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, The White Stripes, The Shins) to create OMNI.
The album has an overall mellow, chill feeling, incorporating elements of pop and indie. The opening track “My Time” features a fun synth line underneath a pop melody and sensual lyrics. The catchy guitar riffs in “Secret Country” are sure to make you dance, or at least air guitar. “Dayglow Vista Road” builds up to a groovy baseline and feel good synth.
I would recommend a listen of MTB’s digital-only seven song EP aptly titled “Acoustics,” released in 2008. The album features acoustic versions of some of the bands most beloved songs, including “Knights,” “Ice Monster,” and “We Are Not a Football Team.” The album is sure to help you relax after a stressful day, or is the perfect soundtrack to an afternoon with a friend.
So come to the Town Ballroom Thursday Oct 13 for a spectacular anniversary set from Minus the Bear. Visit www.tickets.com for tickets.
