Over the next two weeks, we will be bringing you a daily post about green buildings in Buffalo. Each building highlighted will be available for you to see for FREE on October 1, 2011 at the WNY Solar Homes and Green Buildings Tour from 10am – 4pm.
While this tour is not limited to the city itself, it is very important to give a HUGE cheer to the city of Buffalo because there are so many great projects that we are able to showcase this year. For a full list of tour sites go to www.wnysea.com.
Today we are highlighting The Avant (see background).
Uniland Development Company took a giant leap of faith in Buffalo when it came to reusing a vacant, high rise building.
The Avant is the largest recycling project of clean materials and building reuse in Western New York history, recycling over 7,200 tons of clean material. The Avant features efficient CFL and LED lighting, high efficiency inverter heat pumps, recycled materials, daylighting and a LEED Certification.
On October 1, 2011, The Avant will have tours every half hour from 12 – 4pm that will point out the green features of the building. The tour is just one small part of the larger tour taking place across WNY.
