Hertel Avenue is landing a kitchen and home supply and decor store. That’s sweet news for anyone who misses having a place to shop for kitchen accessories other than Target or Marshalls. Long gone are the specialty kitchen accessory shops such as The Elmwood Panhandler and Willis and Lowe (both formerly on Elmwood), where people could conveniently shop for a peeler, a strainer, a baster and a sharp knife. The shop is being billed as a place to score ‘cookware, bakeware, kitchen tools and tabletop products (including linens), and home keeping goods’.
Thinking about a quality kitchen and home store also brings back the memories of having Pier 1 on Elmwood. Just recently I was wondering where to go for non-paper dinner napkins, and I drew a blank. I thought back to the convenience of having Pier 1 and wondered when we would ever see another culinary supply retailer in the city. Presto! Not only does the concept sound refreshing, just check out the building that Blue Hill is moving into…. the brick work, transom windows, bold archway and inset entranceways are architecturally inspiring. I can’t wait to see this place finished and operational.
A shop for people who like to cook and entertain. Another win for Hertel.
