Twenty Years of Pride: Celebration Moves to Canalside

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, Wednesday marked the kickoff of Pride Week in Buffalo with the raising of the Pride Rainbow Flag in Niagara Square. While the Sunday Pride Festival has typically been held in Bidwell Park, the celebration has outgrown this venue and will now move to Canalside on Buffalo’s waterfront.

The week’s events also include the 10th Annual Dyke March on Saturday at 5 PM. The march starts at 1195 Main Street, travels down Summer Street, Elmwood Avenue and finally ending at North Pearl Street and Allen Street. Immediately following the Dyke March is the Allen Street Festival or “Gayborhood Block Party” taking place on Allen Street between Franklin and Pearl streets. Area gay bars will feature outdoor bar service.

On Sunday, the Annual Pride Parade will kick off at 1 PM from Lafayette and Elmwood avenues and travel a new route south down Elmwood Avenue and end at Chippewa and South Elmwood Avenue. The Annual Pride Festival will immediately follow the parade at Canalside. The Pride Week events are managed by the Pride Center of WNY. More information about Pride Week events can be obtained here in the Pride Center Resource and Pride Guide or from the Pride Center website
