The Stiletto Run is calling all stiletto shoe wearers to join in for a good cause, whether you are a walker or a runner. The 4th annual 5K Stiletto Run is being hosted by ShoeFly and Celebrate Buffalo, on Wednesday, June 22 at 7 pm. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m.
A portion of the event proceeds will benefit The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Pre-registration for the event is $25 or $30 on the day of the event. In 2010, the event raised over $6k to benefit The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
According The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s website, “Ovarian cancer accounts for approximately 3 percent of cancers in women. While the ninth most common cancer among women, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers.” To be eligible for prizes, runners must be registered and complete the race in a shoe with a minimum heel height of three inches. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded to the first three runners to cross the finish line.
Sue Marfino, owner of ShoeFly/Clutch, founded The Stiletto Run in 2008. “The Stiletto Run is not only visually distinctive from other races and a blast to participate in; it’s also about touching lives. Local families and individuals run in honor of those affected by ovarian cancer and eagerly dress up in colorful, unique costumes to honor their loved ones,” said Marfino.
The Stiletto Run will begin at the corner of Bidwell Avenue and Elmwood Avenue and finish in front o ShoeFly on Elmwood. The race is open to all women and men runners/walkers, and onlookers are invited to cheer on participants and join in the after-party for great food, music and drinks provided by Elmwood Avenue vendors.
