Work is now underway to connect the Central Wharf to Main Street along the mouth of the Buffalo River. When the project is complete, joggers, cyclists, etc. will be able to travel along the water’s edge, gaining access to River Fest Park (via DL&W Terminal) in one direction and the Inner Harbor, Erie Basin Marina, and so forth in the other direction.
The project will tentatively be complete by end of June. Along with the walkway, there will be a new food shack (workers are pouring the concrete pad this week) located at the boardwalk entrance to the connection. New light standards will match the existing light standards. A temporary chain link fence will be installed, along with grass, an informal beach island (currently being designed with a natural playground component), and then more grass as cyclists approach the Bricks for Buffalo people park.
Trail users will have to navigate a short stretch from the end of the connection (at Main Street) to the Bricks for Buffalo park, before accessing the bike trail alongside the DL&W Terminal. Navigational signage will help to direct people along the route.
